Big Prizemoney for Bathurst’s The Panorama

Following on from its record-breaking Soldier’s Saddle race meeting, Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing (BTR) has announced that the Club’s new race, The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama, will now boast $110,000 in prizemoney (up from $80,000).

The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama – named after Bathurst’s legendary Mount Panorama – is ideally placed to be run on Sunday 25 September, just under three weeks out from the $2million The Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick on Saturday 15 October.

The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama has quickly become the Central Districts premier event for sprinters. The race is unique in that country-trained horses receive a ballot preference into the race.

Last year the race was taken out by talented galloper Spiranac trained by Rodney Northam and ridden by Mitchell Bell.

Spiranac was then a luckless third to Art Cadeau and Handle the Truth in The Kosciuszko at Randwick.

“The rise to $110,000 prizemoney for The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama is great news not only for racing at Bathurst but for the Western Region,” said BTR’s General Manager, Michelle Tarpenning.

“In just three years The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama has quickly established itself as a major lead-up to The Kosciuszko which is run for country-trained horses only.

“With a multi million-dollar upgrade to our training facilities, the aim is to produce not only locally trained winners of The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama but Bathurst-trained winners of The Kosciuszko.

“This year’s Soldier’s Saddle was by far and away the most successful in the history of Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing.

“The community really embraced having no pandemic restrictions for the first time in over two years, so it is exciting times ahead for BTR and Tyers Park.”

On the same day as The Ray White Emms Mooney Panorama, BTR will host the $50,000 The Daffodil Cottage Bathurst Cup (1800m), one of 25 qualifying Country Cups for the $2 million The Big Dance run at Royal Randwick on Tuesday 1 November.
